Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk Review & Giveaway

I love milk. Some people are with me, some like my hubby...not so much. I can drink a gallon a day and am pretty sure I have in my younger years. The best is when you chill a glass in the freezer and when it's all frosty you pour the ice cold milk into the glass. With your first drink you get that little bit of frozen thin top layer like a milkshake..agh it's so good!

So because of my huge love for milk I was thrilled when approached to write a review for Horizons new Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3 campaign. Now I am already very familiar with Horizon Milk. My girls love their single serving organic milk boxes. I love that besides the health benefits I can throw it in my bag and go, no refrigeration needed.  Just when you think Horizon has organic nutrition beat they come up with a way to make it better. By adding DHA Omega-3 you and your family get more of this vital nutrient with every serving.

I was sent 2 coupons to try free of charge the new Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk w/ DHAOmega-3. Let me tell you, I think I was more excited than the girls. Chocolate milk...for sure! We were not disappointed. The creamy texture was perfect and the yummy chocolate flavor is heaven. The girls wanted to drink both half gallons that day they enjoyed it so much. Mommy had to hide that last of it in the back of the fridge for herself..lol

What is DHA?

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is a type of Omega-3 fatty acid, a nutrient that has been studied extensively in connection with heart, brain and eye health. Although it is found in most tissues throughout the body, the highest concentrations of DHA are in the brain, nervous system and the retina of the eye, and it helps support normal development in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help promote heart health.

Important from the Start

Leading health authorities recommend that pregnant and nursing women consume adequate DHA.

DHA exists naturally in breast milk.
Significant accumulation of DHA in the fetal brain begins during the second trimester of pregnancy.
A child’s brain experiences a rapid growth spurt in the first few years of life.
Newborns and toddlers rely on breast milk or formula as a DHA source, but getting adequate DHA can be a challenge as children transition to solid foods.

Important for Kids

DHA provides a nutritional boost for children's growing minds and bodies. According to pediatrician Dr. Alan Greene, "Most American kids are not getting the DHA they need. The typical three-year-old needs about 150 mg of DHA a day. On average, they are only getting about 19 mg, a tiny fraction of what they need for optimal brain growth."

DHA is found primarily in fatty fish, and many Americans, especially kids, don't eat enough of these foods to get the recommended amount of DHA in their diets. In addition, the FDA and EPA recommend that young children limit their fish intake to 3 servings/week due to potential mercury contamination.

Important through Life

As we mature, DHA continues to be an important nutrient. Experts have studied DHA for its connection with helping promote heart health and possible impact on adult eye health and mental acuity.

Scientists are also currently researching the possibility that a lack of DHA may contribute to certain behavioral and mood disorders affecting adults.

Not a chocolate milk kinda person. They also offer the DHA Omega-3 in their plain milk so everyone now matter their taste can receive the wonderful benefits.
