Let's Talk About The Right To Free Speech

I have seen it happen on other peoples blogs and am always so surprised. However it has never happened on my blog granted I do not post, hardly ever, anything negative or objectionable by other peoples standards until yesterday apparently. Is this not MY blog? Is there not freedom of speech? Can I not use MY blog to post my thoughts and feelings? Does it always have to be happy go lucky fluff? Did I not post a "Beware Of Language" on my title and then add in the first paragraph "..and with that comes language I feel appropriate at the time.. be for warned".

So while yesterday and still today I am getting much support and understanding from my awesome readers but there was one who felt the need to be nervy on MY blog and post this. Now I know she has the write to her opinion and I have no problem if someone doesn't agree with me but a) do not personally attack my character, and b) get your facts straight first.

"I can't believe that you said all those nasty things on the web!! I am sorry, that woman was rude but you have serious anger issues. Get help.

Two studies have found that deaths and major injuries are 74% likely to be caused by 3 breeds. I am sorry that your dog happens to be one of them. Absolutely, a pit bull is better mannered than other dogs. But a maltese cannot kill someone but a pit bull can. I bet maltese's bite a whole lot more people, but they can't kill someone. So yes, I am a dogist. I racially discriminate. I will allow my kids to approach maltese's but would NEVER allow them to approach a pit bull."

So let's brake down your comment.

1)  How dare you tell me I have "serious anger issues" and to "get help". Do you know me personally? Do you actually ever read my blog and know the content? No, a "serious anger issue" would be if I went and yelled in that lady's face and then beat her down. Instead I chose to come onto MY blog and express my opinions. Did I not add "beware of language" in my title and did I not put in my first paragraph "..and with that comes language I feel appropriate at the time.. be for warned." So you already knew before you read this that it wasn't going to be a fluff piece right, and yet you still chose to read it. Would I go to your blog and leave a comment about your religious beliefs? No I wouldn't you know why, because your entitled to your own beliefs and opinions and to post them as such on your own blog.

2) "Two studies have found that deaths and major injuries are 74% likely to be caused by 3 breeds". Now why do you think this is? Is it the breed? No as discussed it is the stupid owners so you are still blaming the breed. Do you expect these idiot owners to train a tea cup poodle to be vicious? No they train the big dogs this way.

3)"Absolutely, a pit bull is better mannered than other dogs", "But a maltese cannot kill someone but a pit bull can."  Wanna bet! If a Pomeranian can kill someone so can a Maltese!

" The most horrifying example of the lack of breed predictability is the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family's Pomeranian dog. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed. Note, however, that they were bred to be watchdogs! The baby's uncle left the infant and the dog on a bed while the uncle prepared her bottle in the kitchen. Upon his return, the dog was mauling the baby, who died shortly afterwards. ("Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog," Los Angeles Times, Monday, October 9, 2000, Home Edition, Metro Section, Page B-5.)"

4) "I bet maltese's bite a whole lot more people, but they can't kill someone. So yes, I am a dogist. I racially discriminate. I will allow my kids to approach maltese's but would NEVER allow them to approach a pit bull."  So even admitting that Maltese's probably have a bigger bite incident you would still let your child go up to it and maybe get bitten? Then this comment you made ""Absolutely, a pit bull is better mannered than other dogs", makes no logical sense to me with your statement, "but would NEVER allow them to approach a pit bull." Your contradicting yourself.

5) Back to the "serious anger issues", "get help" comment. Does that mean that all my commenters who understood where I was coming from and lended their support and atta girls...does that mean they all have "anger issues" and "need help" as well?

Yeah, I wouldn't let my child near ANY strange dog without the owner's permission anyway. It IS your blog and you have a right to express yourself as you see fit...heck, last time I checked we did live in a freedom of speech country.

If you had anger issue problems you would have decked that lady and would have sicked your dog on her...nope, you appropriatly channeled your anger.

Oh, and lastly, I have a strict rule on my blog: don't attack anyone personally. RESPECTFULLY express your disagreement, sure, but do NOT attack the person...attack the thought. If you don't, your comment will immediatly be deleted and, if it continues on that post, comments will get closed completely.

oh my!!!

I'm so sad to read about the baby killed by family's dog. It makes me sick to the stomach. :(

I think all pets are dangerous if you don't train them and love them. It always irks me to see cats with little babies. I love cats myself, don't get me wrong; but I'm just too nervous because you know babies, they will be rough on the cat when grabbing it and try to put it in their mouth or something. But I can't say that cats are deadly. Any pet presents a potential danger, but 98% (that's just a guess I pulled out of my ass--I may be wrong) it's the owner's or the person interacting with the animal's fault.

Like I said, I grew up with pitbulls and we NEVER EVER EVER had an incident, not even with visitors to our house who were always terrified of the dogs.

Yes, our pitbull did kill two of the neighbors' pets. But here is the deal, our dog was always fenced in-ALWAYS. The neighbor's cat, got inside our backyard and near enough to the dog, that it got killed. The other neighbor had a Chihuahua, and it too, got inside your backyard. Our pitbull ate it. :-/

Mom saw it happen. Both neighbors called the cops on us, and guess what? They actually got in trouble for letting their pets wonder into our backyard.

The sadest part is that she was condemning you for your thoughts about the subject, and telling YOU that YOU need help...I am sorry, but anyone who admits "So yes, I am a dogist. I racially discriminate" THEY are the ones who need help! Let me guess, they were anonymous, right!! Don't let that idiot get you down! :)

Standing and applauding, yelling "You go girl!!"

I got attacked by a pint sized dog, not sure what kind of breed they are but this one what I call an "ankle biter"!

I still to this day hessitate to walk up to little dogs because I find they are unpredictable, they will let you get close then SNAP a chunk of cheek is missing!
A dog will be as good as you train them to be. If you train them to be agressive of course it's going to attack!

I believe everyone has a blog to voice their oppions and no one needs to tell you to "go get help".
You did the right thing by posting it AND walking away!

Thank you ladies again so much for your support and understanding :)

Vanessa - She was not anonymous (I do not allow annon posters) so I know who she is but felt it was not right to call her out as a person, I was calling out her comments to me. Unless she would love to comment again and show herself to you all, I will not disclose her :)

I didn't commet on your post yesterday because I didn't feel I had anything to add. However, I want to put my 2 cents in here. Whether I agree with your comments from yesterday or not, (which I do, by the way), it is NEVER my right, duty, etc. to tell you what you can and cannot write. It certainly isn't my place to tell you to get therapy and I would never tell you what kind of dog to own. This woman sounds as if she has some undealt with issues and you happened to be in the line o fire. Sorry you had to deal with that, but I hope she has chosen to take care of HER ager issues.

It is your blog and you have the right to vent anyway you want. Yes you did warn of language. I still agree with you it's not the dog itself it's the owners. It's how they train and act towards the dog. Geesh I bet she would say I needed help if she could hear my mouth... LOL

When I was growing up there was a girl on our street who was bitten by a german shepherd in the leg. she went over to a friend's house (where the dog lived). And because she was blonde, the dog associated her with it's previous blonde owner (who severely beat the german shepherd from birth) and bit the girl in the leg.

It was the previous owners ABUSE that led to the dogs aggession.

I'm sorry about my comments. In the future I will just quietly unsubscribe when a blog in my reader offends me.

I am sorry that you were the brunt of my comment.

I have not read any of the above, but I returned to apologize and saw the new post.
