A Trip To Liberty {photography}

My posts lately have been sporadic at best and I haven't visited anyone in a while. It's amazing how parts of your life can take over and effect the others. I have been sewing a ton! Lots of custom orders which I feel very blessed about, boutique modeling for my girls, TBall games and grandma has been visiting from CA since last week. So yeah, just a few things going on around here...lol

Yesterday we did get out of town...yay! We decided Sunday night to get up wicked early Monday morning and road trip it out to Liberty State Park in NJ. From there we would take a ferry to Ellis Island and then visit Liberty Island. So that is just what we did!

Liberty State Park - Walking to the ferry terminal

CRRNJ (Central Railroad New Jersey Terminal)

Inside CRRNJ

They still keep the lights lit up on the old rail tracks, such a cool sight to see.

Peeking inside the train terminals, now abandoned.

"The CRRNJ Terminal stands with the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to unfold one of this nation's most dramatic stories: the immigration of northern, southern, and eastern Europeans into the United States. After being greeted by the Statue of Liberty and processed at Ellis Island, these immigrants purchased tickets and boarded trains, at the CRRNJ Terminal, that took them to their new homes throughout the United States. The Terminal served these immigrants as the gateway to the realization of their hopes and dreams of a new life in America.

Today, Liberty State Park continues to serve a vital role in the New York Harbor area. As the railroads and industry declined, the land was abandoned and became a desolate dump site. With the development of Liberty State Park came a renaissance of the waterfront. Land with decaying buildings, overgrown tracks and piles of debris was transformed into a modern urban state park. The park was formerly opened on Flag Day, June 14, 1976, as New Jersey's bicentennial gift to the nation." (source libertystatepark.org)

NY skyline from the Miss Gateway ferry.

Still rebuilding after 9/11. It's going to be a beauty.

We arrive at Ellis Island

Ellis Island Immigration Museum once was the immigration station complex for 22 million immigrants, crew members and passengers who entered the US through The Port OF New York and Ellis Island from 1892 to 1924.

Second story of the museum. This is where they processed the immigrants and performed health checks before taking ferries to the CRRNJ. Once there, they bought train tickets to cities all over the US to start their new lives.

Lady Liberty is quite a beautiful sight.

Having fun at Liberty Island

 We even packed our lunches in our Easy Lunchboxes  and brought them along for the trip..lol

C saying goodbye to Lady Liberty

We had so much fun and the girls just thought it was so cool to see things they have learned about in school. C was so excited to go to school today and tell everyone all about her trip. She even brought her torch and mini liberty statue to share in class...lol.
