Little Deer, Little Deer Bento

"It's time to sleep, little deer, little deer,
The very last kiss is almost here."

(Quote from Time For Bed by Mem Fox)

C's Box

M's Box

Close up of C's little deer.

The girls got almost exactly the same boxes today except for M has her favorite Hapi crackers and C has her strawberry Kawaii cookies. I didn't know how I was going to make a deer, I had sketched out a few head shots but then remembered Deery-Lou by Sanrio. He's just so cute!

I don't think I did too bad recreating him out of bread, turkey pastrami, nori and Swiss cheese... especially for being a beginner. He is on a bed of rice surrounded by carrot flowers and clover sprouts. I bought some new bento boxes today (of course) but instead we decide to use our Easy Lunchboxes containers. They worked perfectly as usual.

Very cute idea. By the way, what does "bento" mean? I keep seeing it.

It is traditionally a Japanese lunch packed in a divided or sectioned box. Kyaraben boxes are decorated to look like characters from anime, comics or video games where as oekakiben is decorated to look like pictures of animals, people, plants, ect..

Very cute!!! But....where do you find the time??? My girls barely get a PB&J thrown on the table amongst all of our chaos!
